The Regional cum Facilitation Centre Western Region (RCFC-WR) of the National Medicinal Plants Board in collaboration with Netravali Health Society’s Arogyadhyam and Rotary Club Margao Midtown, recently hosted a farmers training programme on value addition of medicinal plants at Verlem-Neturlim.
The programme aimed at equipping farmers with skills in value addition, cosmetic product manufacturing, and the distribution of medicinal plants.
The workshop was conducted by Dr Swapnil Shinde who provided hands-on training in the creation of various value-added products from medicinal plants. This included soap making, jam making, and chocolate production.
Dr Shinde also demonstrated the preparation of medicinal plant oils, such as “Nirgundi oil” for pain relief and Hibiscus oil for hair growth.
Dr Mahesh Verlekar outlined various government schemes available for medicinal plant cultivation and provided information to farmers looking to engage in this sector.
On the occasion, Subhash Velip, Chairman of Atal Gram Development Agency, discussed the strawberry plantation project and highlighted government support for the upliftment of farmers, self-help groups, and the public.
Sushant Goankar, President of Arogyadhyam, shed light on the organisation’s societal welfare initiatives and encouraged attendees to take advantage of the facilities provided.
Guest speaker Vijaykant Goankar stressed the significance of farming, emphasising its role in sustaining communities and contributing to the overall well-being of society. The function was compered by Shrikant Verlekar.
