CANACONA
A new footbridge has been constructed over a Bhandara to link Borimoll and Talem wards in Gaondongrim-Canacona.
The new footbridge, built at a cost of Rs 5 lakhs, was inaugurated by Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar in the presence of ward panch Sarita Gaonkar, neighbouring panch and Canacona BJP Mandal President Prabhakar Gaonkar, and many villagers on Wednesday.
“This has been a demand pending for over 40-50 years. It is a sad thing that a schoolgirl got washed into the river while crossing this river to go to school some years ago,” said Tawadkar.
“The work is small but very important for the people of Borimoll and Talem, who are interconnected with their day-to-day lives. This footbridge will mark a new beginning, particularly during monsoons, for villagers of both Borimoll and Talem,” stated Tawadkar.
“This footbridge has cut short the distance from 5 kilometres to just half a kilometre.”
Satoli panch Sarita Gaonkar, Nanem panch and Canacona BJP Mandal President Prabhakar Gaonkar, WRD Assistant Engineer Nagvenkar, Junior Engineer Kishore, former Gaondongrim sarpanch Vishant Gaonkar, and locals were present on the occasion.
