Due to stoppage of raw water from Tillari during the annual maintenance period there was a drop of 20 percent in production of treated water resulting in shortage to entire Bardez but to streamline the shortfall, the WRD has prepared a master plan to connect Amthane Dam and other local sources to ensure that raw water is available at all times, PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral told the Goa Legislative Assembly on Thursday.
Cabral also informed that this project is likely to be completed by May 2024.
“When supply of raw water from Tillari is stopped for maintenance we face a problem of shortage of treated water. The PWD and WRD is working on a plan to compensate the shortage of raw water for around two months during maintenance of the Tillari canal,” Cabral said.
The PWD Minister was responding to a Calling Motion raised by Congress MLA Carlos Ferreira on problems faced by people of Ponolem, Calvim, Carona, Olaulim, Pomburpa and Ecoxim in Aldona Constituency, on account of irregular water supply on a daily basis and sometimes no proper pressure.
Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, Siolim MLA, Delilah Lobo and Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza also participated in the debate and placed the woes of their respective constituencies vis-Ã -vis irregular water supply.
The PWD Minister informed that the peak demand of Aldona constituency was 12 MLD.
He said when raw water supply from Tillari is available, nearly 12.6 MLD treated water was supplied to Aldona on an average and supply timing was ranging from 5 to 10 hours per day.
However, during the period from November 10, 2022 till end of December 2022 when Tillari raw water supply was shut, the quantity of treated water supplied dropped to 7 to 9 MLD.
