BELAGAVI: Yeddyurappa was addressing the meeting of party workers in Belagavi on Tuesday.
“I will contact the leaders of ruling and opposition parties in Goa and Maharashtra and I am confident of finding an amicable solution to the long pending issue that has strained the relations between these three states,” he said.
“All of us agree that we need to safeguard the interests of the farmers and also address the drinking water needs of the people of north Karnataka. Hence, I am confident that with the intervention of the Centre and BJP leaders in Karnataka, the party leaders in both the states would definitely support the cause,” Yedyurappa said urging Chief Minister Siddaramiah to support the initiatives in the interest of the people.
Stating that former chief minister Jagdish Shettar raised the issue of drought in the ongoing session of the state legislature, Yeddyurappa said he too was on a whirlwind tour of 13 drought-ravaged districts in the state to review the situation.
“The BJP would take up another tour of drought-hit areas,” he said revealing that 57 farmers committed suicide in the state last year.
It may be recalled that Union Minister Ananth Kumar too on Monday made a similar statement and had assured Center’s intervention in resolving the dispute by arranging a meeting of chief ministers of three states.
However, Congress party is looking upon the assurances as fake and misleading.
“Why did he not the implement the water diversion project that he himself had inaugurated when he was the chief minister of the state,” a senior Congress leader questioned.
