A youth has accused airport parking attendants of providing fake slips to fraudulently collect money after he was being forced to pay a Rs 100 fine.
The youth further shot a video clip of the incident and loaded it on social media to warn other visitors at Dabolim airport. Airport officials are reported to have taken note of the incident and are probing the matter.
According to the video clip, which has gone viral on social media, the youth said that the airport parking attendants forced him to pay a fine of Rs 100 even though he had not exceeded the prescribed five minutes and was entitled to free entry and exit.
The youth claimed that when he insisted on checking the slip issued by the attendants, he was shocked to find the slip containing details of another car.
He claimed that the same old slips were being issued to various cars and unsuspecting motorists were being charged at the exit gate of the airport on grounds of exceeding the five-minute period.
The video clip further shows an attendant at the ticket counter claiming that it was probably the fault of the machine, as many old receipts were being printed with the same car numbers and old time of entry in the airport.
Though the ticket collector insists it was a mistake of the machine and assured to rectify it, the youth has demanded an enquiry and has accused the parking attendants of extorting money from unsuspecting visitors at the airport.
“An old slip with a different car number was used to make me pay a fine, though I was not at the airport for over a minute. After I made a noise, they started issuing genuine slips. They may have been using the same slip for all vehicles that left from the airport,” said the youth.
When contacted, a source at the airport informed that officials have taken note of the incident and are probing the matter. “The contractor can be terminated since a clause in the contract stipulates that any violations will be dealt with strictly resulting in cancellation of services,” said the source.
