The Youth Congress on Tuesday asked for the suspension of head constable of Sanguem police station Pundalik Gaonkar who they alleged had circulated mugshots of three youth Congress leaders, pictures that were meant to be for the private usage of the police station.
The Youth Congress is set to pursue the matter with the Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC), the Director General of Police (DGP) and other authorities.
Addressing the press, youth Congress chief Varad Mardolkar said that though Gaonkar was saying the pictures got leaked by mistake, three persons’ pictures could not have been leaked by “mistake” and the party will see through a thorough investigation on the matter.
Mardolkar further said that the police were trying to malign the images of Congress workers and defame them, instead of doing their job when it counted. He reminded that there had been no investigation conducted in the case of Lester D’Souza and Clint Rebello who had been
assaulted by police.
