MARGAO
The Congress upped the ante against government functioning with the Youth Congress on Wednesday taking out a mashal rally around the Margao Municipal Council garden to make case for better governance for the people.
Coinciding with Goa Liberation Day, the mashal was taken out by Youth Congress Chief Varad Mardolkar.
The event assumes significance as it was held on the eve of the culmination of the party’s Jan Aakrosh meeting at the historic Lohia Maidan on Thursday.
The mashal rally, which started from the municipal garden, later culminated at the Lohia Maidan, with Youth Congress chief coming down heavily on the Parrikar-led government for various sins of commission and omission.
“The Youth Congress has been forced to take out the mashal rally in Margao to make case for a good governance which is missing in the State. There is no governance at all in the state. The administration is in a sorry state of affairs,” Mardolkar said.
He said CM Manohar Parrikar made his presence felt on the Mandovi bridge, but was conspicuous by his absence at the Liberation day programme.
“It is totally unconstitutional for a Speaker to hoist the national flag when the state is ruled by a Chief Minister,” he said, while demanding to know why the CM did not invite the media when he made his presence felt on the Mandovi bridge.
Saying that the government has promised jobs for the unemployed youth, Mardolkar sought to know the number of jobs created by the ruling dispensation.
“There’s no law and order in the State. The police are taking law in their hands. We have come out to protest against the government’s failure to address the common men’s problem,” he added.
