A youth from Agonda had a lucky escape after he jumped off his skidding two-wheeler, before it got crushed under the front wheels of a minibus at a sharp turn in Devabhaga along the Canacona-Agonda road on Monday evening.

According to reports, the mishap took place as the minibus full with passengers, mostly workers returning to their respective homes from their work at Agonda, was proceeding to Chaudi-Canacona, while Lewi Fernandes (22) was riding to his home.

According to Fernandes, he tried to apply brakes on reaching the sharp turn at Devabaga, but the two-wheeler skidded and he jumped off the vehicle. The youth fell on the left side of the road after reportedly two somersaults and escaped with only bruises on one of his hands. The helmet he was wearing bore the brunt of the fall.

Moments later, the scooter got crushed under the front wheels of an oncoming minibus. The scooter got dragged to a distance of about 10 metres, before the bus came to a halt. All the passengers alighted from the bus and proceeded in other vehicles to their destinations. The scooter was later removed from under the wheels of the bus with a hydraulic jack.  LUCKY ESCAPE
