Youth feared drowned in Chapora river near Revora

A 35-year-old man from Tormas in Alorna-Pernem has been feared drowned during a fishing trip in the Chapora river near Revora on Thursday evening.

According to reports, a group of five persons had gone fishing on the banks of the Chapora river at about 3 pm.

While they were fishing, the nets which were cast into the river bed got stuck at one place. Thomas Fernandes went into the river to remove the net, but disappeared in the river.

His friends raised an alarm and alerted locals. The police and the fire services were also pressed into service.

Mapusa Fire Station Officer Ganesh Govekar and Deputy Officer Omkar Karbotkar along with their team conducted a search operation in the river. Colvale Police Inspector Sanjit Kandolkar and a police team as well as locals also assisted in the search operations but were unable to locate Fernandes till late evening, before search operations were called off.
