He has been admitted at GMC the goan I networkPONDAFourteen years after a young woman was shot dead under mysterious circumstances in Caranzal-Marcaim, a similar incident stunned the village on Thursday when a 19-year-old girl from Laadewada-Marcaim was shot dead in her house by a youth residing at Loutolim. Shortly after shooting Sujata Naik dead, the accused, identified as Nikhil Kumar, tried to end his life but sustained serious injuries and has been admitted at GMC hospital at Bambolim. According to police sources, the incident occurred at about 8 pm, when Kumar had gone to Naik's house and began quarrelling with her over some issue, in the presence of her stepmother and grandfather. Police sources added that Naik noticed that Kumar had come with a gun and confronted him about the weapon. Kumar is reported to have stated that he had kept the gun for his safety and moments later, allegedly shot her on the chest and hand. After the girl slumped to the ground, the accused then fired gun shots at himself. He was taken to the hospital with multiple injuries after police reached on the spot. Sources informed The Goan that Naik's relatives reside in Loutolim, adding that she had met the accused during her visit to the relative's place. The locals informed that Sujata Naik was studying in Khandola. Ponda police were conducting the panchanama of the incident till late Thursday night, as investigations are underway. On July 15, 2002, 22-year-old Tanuja Naik was shot dead by an unknown person at Caranzal-Marcaim while she was returning home from work. This incident had sparked outrage in the village and villagers had even formed a pressure group to demand the arrest and conviction of the accused. A person was later arrested in the connection, but was subsequently acquitted of the murder.
