ZP polls: Only one candidate filed nomination paper so far

Only one candidate has filed papers for the December 20 Zilla Panchayat elections during the first two days of the nomination process.

As per the information provided by the State Election Commission (SEC), while no nominations were received on the first day- December 1, Independent candidate John Beda Pedro Pereira filed his nomination from Velim ZP constituency in South.

The last date for filing the nominations is December 9. The elections for 50 ZP constituencies are scheduled on December 20 while counting will take place on December 22.

The AAP has announced names of 37 candidates so far, while BJP has released a list of 19 nominees. The Congress too, declared candidates in 11 constituencies. The MGP is set to contest in three seats while GFP is eyeing ten seats in alliance with Congress.

According to the election schedule, nomination papers will not be accepted on December 3, being a public holiday, and December 7, a Sunday. 

The scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on December 10 between 10 am and 3 pm, while withdrawals will be permitted on December 11 until 2 pm, following which the final list of candidates will be announced.
