Dy Speaker and Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes has stated that cooperative societies have been working to meet the health, welfare and financial needs of its members.
Fernandes was speaking at the Silver Jubilee celebrations of Canacona Community Health Centre Employees Cooperative Credit Society Limited at Chaudi on Sunday.
Besides praising the society for helping its members, Fernandes also lauded the efforts of members, who as health workers, offer medical support to the people of Canacona.
According to the Society Chairman Shaba Desai, the society has completed 25 years of its inception and presently has 110 members with a balance sheet of Rs 2.95 crore.
The society offers credit up to a maximum of Rs 15 lakh to meet the financial needs of its members.
On the occasion, total of 76 members, including 51 former members, were facilitated by Fernandes and Canacona Municipal Council Chairperson Nitu Sameer Desai.
Desai, CHC Health Officer Dr Vandana Desai, Goa State Cooperative Bank official Pandurang Kuttikar, Society Chairman Shaba Desai, Vice-Chairman Savita Naikgaunkar and Secretary Savita Sawant also spoke on the occasion.
