The state government has taken a decision to outsource the work of cleaning beaches in Goa to Drishti Lifesaving as a ‘stopgap arrangement'.
This information was provided by Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar while replying to a question asked by Margao MLA Digambar Kamat.
Ajgaonkar's reply further noted that beach cleaning work has been assigned to Drishti Lifesaving because of an emergency situation.
Actually, Bhumika Cleantech Services and Ram Cleansers and Developers had a contract to clean beaches in North Goa and South Goa respectively.
But, the contracts between the state government and these two contractors were discontinued with effect from December 5, 2016.
Due to this emergent situation, the state government has outsourced the work of comprehensive management of cleanliness of the beaches to Drishti Lifesaving as a stopgap arrangement with effect from December 17, 2016.
At the beginning of this tourism season in October, a number of stakeholders, hoteliers and shack-owners, had expressed concern that they did not know which agency has been entrusted with the task of beach
cleaning.
