‘Finished mafia raj by banning LED fishing and bull trawling’

VASCO: Claiming to have finished "mafia raj" by bringing in a ban on LED fishing and bull trawling activity, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Radha Mohan Singh on Saturday said the union government is determined to protect the interest of traditional fishermen.
He was interacting with The Goan on his arrival at Dabolim airport on Saturday morning, where he was welcomed by Fisheries Minister Vinoda Paliencar. "I have finished mafia raj by bringing in a ban on LED fishing and bull trawling. We have to protect the interest of traditional fishermen," said Singh, while speaking to The Goan. Meanwhile, National Fishworkers Forum (NFF) Vice-chairperson Olencio Simoes and Goenchea Ramponkarancho Ekvott President Agnelo Rodrigues have welcomed Singh's move to impose a uniform ban on LED fishing and bull trawling in the Indian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) from 0-200 nautical miles of territorial waters.
