Parrikar was addressing a function organised by BJP block committees from Mormugao Taluka to highlight achievements of the central government’s three years in office.
Clarifying on protests by activists who fear that 600 trees were being cut as part of road-widening work between Cortalim and Vasco, Parrikar said: “Though the government had permission to cut 600 trees, only 200 trees which hindered the road-widening work were cut while 400 hundreds trees were saved.”
“I have instructed officials to cut trees only if there is no option and to replace these trees. We are not only widening the highways, but are also taking care of nature by not cutting trees in a haphazard manner,” said Parrikar.
Others who spoke at the event included Dabolim MLA and Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho, Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida, South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar, BJP State President Vinay Tendulkar and MMC Chairperson Deepak Naik.
Among those present at the function included Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha, BJP block presidents of all four Mormugao constituencies and councilors from Mormugao Municipal Council. Incidentally, Mormugao MLA Milind Naik did not attend the function as he is reportedly out of station.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is keeping a tab on each and every state, to monitor their progress. “Goa is being watched very keenly by Modi and he is aware of our developmental needs, due to which two new bridges on Mandovi and Zuari rivers are being constructed,” he said.
“Earlier, only buses and other light vehicles were allowed to cross the existing bridges and trucks and other heavy vehicles had to take a long detour from travel between north and south Goa. Soon, heavy vehicles will be allowed to proceed on these new bridges. What is more important is that the new bridges are being constructed without causing much hardship to commuters and motorists,” Parrikar added.
