He also announced that the PWD will take up the Arlem-Ravindra Bhavan road widening at a cost of Rs 17 crore ahead of the BRICS summit.
During an informal chat with the media on the sidelines of a program in the city here on Monday, Sudin said the new fine structure will be immediately enforced in the state once the Parliament gives its green signal to the amendment to the MV Act.
He said the PWD will spend a whopping Rs 17 crore to widen the Arlem-Ravindra Bhavan road ahead of the BRICS summit in South Goa. “The government has already sanctioned work on the project. The tender will be opened in the first week of September and work is expected to commence by mid-September,” he siad.
Replying to a query, the PWD Minister said that all the damaged roads in Margao, which were dug up to lay the sewerage line, will be restored before December.
On the status of the two sewerage treatment plants under construction at Sirvodem-Navelim, Sudin said work on the plants is almost completed and the same will be commissioned at the earliest. When the media pointed out that while the government has drawn up plans to commission the two plants, the north main underground line passing through Fatorda is damaged and awaiting urgent replacement, Sudin said the PWD has already drawn up estimates for the replacement of the line and the work would commence no sooner the government makes available the funds. “The north main line will be replaced at a cost of Rs 62 crore. Work, however, has not commenced on the line since the necessary funds have not been sanctioned,” Sudin said.
