Communication problems among the personnel at Anjuna and Calangute police stations could complicate the investigation into the heinous attack on youth by Goa’s notorious criminal Tarzan Parsekar.
While victim Ravi Shirodkar’s condition remains critical, the Anjuna police have arrested Parsekar and a bunch of others involved in the attack.
The police have suspected that the accused were supplied girls for prostitution in a dance club at Calangute around 1 am on October 1, nearly two and half hours before he stabbed Shirodkar multiple times.
A ‘confidential report’ backed by video footage from security cameras, was submitted to the Calangute police on October 3 requesting to rescue the girls who remain unidentified.
Sources said that the “alleged victims of prostitution” might have escaped fearing police action, as a media briefing was held soon after the incident startled the State on October 1.
Sources told The Goan that the Anjuna police failed to tell their counterparts in Calangute that they visited the Club where the suspected sex trade victims were present.
“The Anjuna police were spotted at ‘X’ Club Bar & Restaurant in the wee hours of October 1. We are given to understand that these girls were still around the premises when the investigating team arrived to seize the CCTV footage of the movement in and around the Club. The Calangute police were kept in the dark,” a senior officer, overseeing the investigation from the Police Headquarters in Panaji, said.
The supposed communication gap or rather coordination issue among the policemen facilitated the girls to go off the police radar. “The Club was shut during a surprise check by the Calangute police and the girls were nowhere to be found. A search for them has not ended though,” the officer said.
Even as the probe’s main focus revolved around the attack, the police have also clarified that “Joshua and Friends” are the original owners of the Club who let the property on lease to Manoj Singh and Urban D’Souza.
Meanwhile, the Anjuna police have already sent a fresh proposal to the North Collectorate to invoke NSA and another externment order against Parsekar.
The unplanned attempted murder was executed in a fit of rage after Shirodkar allegedly warned them against creating a ruckus on the road. “We are preparing a water-tight case against Parsekar to ensure he is externed again and is slapped with NSA,” DySP Jivba Dalvi told The Goan.
The history sheeter was externed from entering the north district for six months, prior to indulging in another crime last Saturday. “He was living in South Goa. We will probe who else was in touch with him and if there is any previous rivalry between the accused and the victim, or if Parsekar was still involved in criminal activity during this period as well. We are also monitoring the victim's health to get a clear picture,” an officer said.
