Even after Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar was seen inspecting the yet-to-be opened third Mandovi Bridge on Sunday, the Congress is far from impressed with the CM’s efforts to quiet his critics.
A day after Parrikar’s first public outing after being shifted to Goa on October 14, state Congress chief Girish Chodankar said that he would only appreciate the CM’s personal inspection of the bridge if Parrikar hoisted the flag on December 19, adding that hoisting a flag required far less effort than inspecting a bridge.
In a tweet on Monday afternoon Girish said, “Will appreciate the Goa CM’s effort to personally visit and inspect the bridge, if the same spirit is displayed on Dec 19 to unfurl our tricolour and deliver the Liberation Day address, and honour Goa’s liberation. To unfurl (the) tricolour is (a) much easier and (more) honourable job than visiting the bridge.”
Meanwhile at a press conference at the Congress headquarters, spokesperson Amarnath Panjikar asked what the CM’s coterie was trying to prove by sending the ailing CM to supervise work on the bridge.
“The CM can barely stand. In both pictures that were released by CMO on Saturday and Sunday, it can be seen that the CM needs the support of an aid to stand. He’s not physically fit, and they’re sending him to supervise the bridge. What are they trying to prove?” he asked, adding that Parrikar was being used as a puppet in a drama, so that the BJP could get sympathy.
Panjikar also said that
the Opposition would have been happy had the government called the media for Parrikar’s first public appearance after coming to Goa in October.
