The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) on Thursday demanded that the BJP come out with Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s medical papers in 24 hours (ending 12:30 pm IST Friday, August 31), failing which the party will organise an agitation.
The GPCC insisted that the CM, who is currently not in town, and may or may not return anytime soon, should step down “for the sake of the people”, as he is unable to serve the people to his full potential.
Further, the party also threatened an agitation if the CM did not step down.
“Not one medical statement has come from either the CM or the party,” insisted Vijay Bhike, North Goa District President.
“We dare the BJP to have the courage to disclose the CM’s medical statement within 24 hours, and make public his illness” said Bhike, addressing the media at around noon.
Bhike also pointed out that Parrikar was making a mockery of democracy.
“The first time he went to the US, he had appointed an Advisory Council which is not in keeping with the Constitution. This time, there is no one to handle the CM’s duties. Is the government working according to the constitution or according to Parrikar’s whims?” questioned the Congress leader.
Bhike also went on to allege that Parrikar was scared of stepping down as he did not want someone from the Bahujan Samaj to become CM.
The GPCC also expressed its sentiments on the way the ashes of the late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee were handled by the ruling party.
“According to our Hindu dharma, ashes are very sacred. Receiving someone’s ashes is an emotional thing,” said Bhike, alleging that the BJP had a celebration of sorts near casinos where people drink and make merry.
