MAPUSA
BJP candidate for Mapusa by-election, Joshua D’Souza on Sunday said that as a young man he had his share of fun, but being a legislator involved responsibility and he was confident of living up to the expectations of the people. He also said that he was the youngest candidate in the fray and will probably be the youngest legislator in the assembly.
“The way I see it, I am from a different generation. I have partied. I have done all these things. I have gone out…But the responsibility of being a legislator has come, and I am sure I will have to look at things differently,” D’Souza said.
The BJP candidate was responding to a query of The Goan on the shrill campaign carried out by the opposition on his past private life.
Continuing, D’Souza said the best answer to his detractors will be to remain within the ambit of his work and fulfill all the promises made in the manifesto.
“What is important is to make sure the people of Mapusa are attended to and to meet whatever promises I have made,” he said.
He further said that during elections all kinds of allegations come up, but he was not worried.
“They generally paint candidates in bad light during elections. If there is any proof they should bring it forward rather than make false claims,” he added.
The BJP candidate requested people of Mapusa to give him an opportunity to represent them in the assembly.
“I will work to my full potential to make sure that each and every job mentioned in the manifesto is covered,” he said.
He also said the CM has given an assurance to focus on Mapusa and complete all pending works. “To my luck, I have a team of councilors who can support and guide me. We also have a huge group of karyakartas both old and new. I have a team of yuvas that are energetic, focused and supportive,” D’Souza said.
He also thanked senior BJP leaders, ex-MLAs, MLAs from neighboring constituencies who were supportive.
“I will make sure not to disappoint the people of Mapusa and fulfill all their dreams and aspirations. We have to plan for the future and make sure that we all work together for a stronger Mapusa and Goa,” he said.
