Porvorim police have arrested one person on charges of snatching a gold chain from a woman in Verem early Wednesday morning.
According to Porvorim PI Rahul Parab, Sudha Vengurlekar (65) of Verem stated that she was walking along at about 8.30 am when an unknown man snatched her gold chain worth Rs 50,000 from her neck and fled on his scooter.
Acting on her complaint, police registered an FIR under Sections 356, 379 IPC. During investigation, Porvorim police analysed as many as 50 CCTV cameras of houses and establishments and identified the suspect as Sagar Mahadev Gaude (31) of Curca.
Police traced the accused at a relative’s place in Verem and during the arrest, the stolen gold chain and a scooter were recovered from the accused. He is presently in police custody.
The investigation team consisted of PI Rahul Parab, PSI Sitaram Malik, constables Nitesh Gawde, Anand Kandurgi, Yogesh Shinde, Mahadev Naik and Utkarsh Dessai.
Further investigation is in progress under the supervision of Porvorim SDPO Vishwesh Karpe.
