1 held for stealing phone from gym

PANAJI

The Panaji police have arrested one Rony D’Souza on charges of stealing a high-end smartphone from a gym situated in Dona Paula. The incident came to light when a gym attendee, Joy Kapadia, reported to the police about the disappearance of his iPhone from his bag, which was kept in the gym’s changing room on July 13.

The stolen phone is valued at approximately Rs 70,000. The Panaji police examined the surveillance footage captured by CCTV cameras both within and outside the gym. The St Inez resident was identified and he was apprehended within a span of 24 hours of the crime. The police said that they have also recovered the stolen phone.

The investigating team is also probing whether the thief has any prior involvement in similar thefts or other criminal activities.
