CANACONA
Stating that a Film City in Canacona will solve a part of unemployment in Canacona taluka, Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar said the entire electricity supply, including all rural areas, in the taluka will be through underground power cables.
Tawadkar was speaking after hoisting the National Flag at the Liberation Day ceremony at Shri Gaitonde Grounds in Chaudi-Canacona on Thursday.
Stating that Canacona is part of the Vikshit-Bharat, Tawadkar said a Rs 1300 crore tender for the Karmalghat section highway is completed and will be completed in the next 2-2.5 years.
“Priority has been given to the rural areas to ensure that Canacona taluka has 100% underground electricity, which is in the final stages due to support extended by our chief minister,” said Tawadkar.
“As far as water supply is concerned, Canacona has already achieved success by supplying water daily for 12 hours in Canacona municipal areas. With the existing water capacity in Chapoli dam itself, we can provide 10 hours daily of water supply throughout the taluka.”
“In a few months time, we have kept the capacity to provide water supply for at least 10 hours daily in Poinguinim, Khotigao and Gaondongrim from the Gaunem dam. In both these dams, we have more than the needed water capacity to provide full-time supply all over the taluka.”
Tawadkar also spoke about human development and efforts being made by the State government to provide employment to every person.
“The Film City is coming up in Canacona and it is a reality as everyone wants it in Canacona. The government is working on this front, which will also help us to solve our unemployment issues to a large extent,” said Tawadkar.
Later a cultural program was held with patriotic songs and dances and kits by schoolchildren.
In two other separate programmes, CMC Chairperson Sara Naik Desai along with Chief Officer, Dy. Chairperson Gangesh Madgavkar, and most councillors, unfurled the national flag at the old municipal building where a new building is under completion. The Hutatma Chowk in memory of freedom fighters at Chaudi was also garlanded.
The Canacona Lions Club led by its president Pankaj Naikgaunkar hoisted national flag at the hands of social worker Gaspar Joseph Coutinho at Lion House Xeller in Canacona.
CMC Chairperson Sara Naik Desai, Madhu Narvekar, Manoj Korgaonkar, Police Inspector Hasrish Raut Desai, Councillors Dhiraj (Pandurang) Naikgaunkar, Nadin Fernandes, Laxuman Pagui, Hemant Naikgaunkar, Amita Pagi, Neetu Desai, other officers and family members of freedom fighters were present.
