A young 19-year old female from Aquem succumbed to Covid at the South Goa district hospital, even as the number of active cases in the Margao Urban Health Centre has almost touched the 2,000-figure mark.
District hospital officials attributed the death of the young patient to Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. Officials informed that the patient died within two hours of admission to the hospital.
Even as Covid claimed the death of the 19-year old female, the health bulletin on Thursday dished out figures that have caused concern, with the number of active Covid cases in Margao inching closer to the 2,000-figure mark.
The bulletin put the total number of active cases in the Margao Urban Health area jurisdiction to 1,974. While the number of active cases in Margao stood at 1,828 on Wednesday, the cases have now jumped to 1,974, a single day spike of 146 cases.
The situation in Salcete countryside is also termed as alarming with a continuous spike in the Covid cases at the Primary health centres. The health bulletin put the number of cases at 381 at the Balli PHC, 812 at Cansaulim PHC, Chinchinim PHC 277, Curtorim PHC 363, Loutolim PHC 343 and Navelim PHC 331.
