Use Ravindra & Kala Bhavans as Covid care centres: Gawas

VASCO

Appealing to the State government to support and incentivise industries to restart closed oxygen plants, BJP state executive member and former GCCI logistics chairman Chandrakant Gawas also said Ravindra Bhavans in all talukas should be used as temporary Covid care centres or makeshift hospitals to tackle rising cases.

"We have a Kala Bhavan or Ravindra Bhavan in almost every taluka. In Mormugao taluka, we have a Ravindra Bhavan at Baina where there are no activities right now amid the pandemic. The Kala Bhavan at Sancoale is a white elephant and though the structure was ready many years ago, it has not been put to use.”

“The Kala Bhavan is away from the residential area and it would be ideal if it can be converted into a makeshift hospital or a Covid care centre so that people can benefit from the project," said Gawas.

Gawas also said there are many oxygen plants in the State which had been closed down for several years but could be restarted to cater to the rising oxygen needs.

"We have some oxygen plants in Mormugao taluka as well and these plants were once functional. The situation is different today and there is a huge demand for oxygen to save lives.”

“The government can offer industrialists some schemes and incentives to restart these plants so that the much-needed oxygen is made available to Goa and Goans.”

“The government can identify many such plants and convene a meeting with the plant owners and support them with infrastructure and schemes to coax them to restart these oxygen plants," said Gawas.
