Verna police on Saturday arrested two persons in connection with the murder of a migrant worker at Velsao.
The body of Sunny Singh (28), a native of Karnataka and employed on a fishing boat, was found in a shed near Velsao beach on Friday evening.
Verna police found injury marks on the body of the deceased and registered a case of murder.
Verna police began investigating the case and had detained two persons for interrogation late Friday evening.
When contacted, Verna Police Inspector Sherif Jacques said the Verna police had arrested two persons, Dinesh Kumar Bhartiya (46) of Uttar Pradesh and Shivnath Majhi (48) of Orissa, both presently residing at Velsao, under Section 302 of IPC. PI Jacques added that the motive of the murder was a drunken brawl.
According to sources in Verna police, Singh and the two accused got into a scuffle over alcohol and following heated arguments, the two workers had allegedly assaulted the deceased with wooden sticks, leading to his death.
Incidentally, this is the second murder case at Velsao beach under similar circumstances, when a migrant worker on board a fishing boat was allegedly murdered by migrant co-workers on December 27, 2020, following a scuffle over alcohol.
Verna police led by PI Sherif Jaques had also acted swiftly in that case and had arrested the accused migrant workers in connection with the murder.
