Two candidates are set to be elected unopposed in the by-polls to their respective wards in Pissurlem and Thane panchayats in Sattari taluka, as they were the only candidates to file their nominations till Tuesday, the last date for filing nominations.

If the applications are found valid during scrutiny, both candidates will be elected unopposed.

In Ward 7 of Pissurlem Panchayat, Navu Kharvat has filed his nomination to the seat which fell vacant after former panch Namdev Chari was elected as a member of the Honda Zilla Panchayat. This ward is reserved for the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category.

Similarly in Ward 1 of Thane Panchayat, Vishwanath Parwar filed his nomination to the seat which had fallen vacant after former panch Nilesh Parwar resigned following his election as the Keri ZP member.

Sattari Mamlatdar and Election Officer Dhirendra Banavalikar confirmed that only one nomination has been received in each ward so far.

Since no additional nominations were filed on Tuesday, the chances of unopposed elections in both wards are high. Scrutiny of the nominations will be conducted on Wednesday, he added.
