4 Kerala tourists thrashed for assaulting taxi owner at Anjuna

An irate crowd thrashed four tourists from Kerala after they allegedly assaulted a taxi driver at Anjuna on Thursday evening. Anjuna police later arrested the four tourists in the connection.

According to reports, the incident took place at about 5.30 pm when the taxi driver, Sanjay Govekar, and some fellow taxi drivers were going to have tea at a nearby hotel.

Four tourists, Bilal Baktar, Munir U P, Muralidaran P P and Ajmal P P were reportedly fighting on the way when Govekar asked them to move aside.

One tourist reportedly pushed him, while another struck him on the face with a wooden stick. The four tourists allegedly assaulted the taxi driver and threatened him with severe consequences. Govekar was later moved to the Mapusa District Hospital where he is undergoing treatment.

Some local youth later gathered at the site and thrashed the four tourists, who managed to flee from the site and hide at a place. They were later picked up by Anjuna police and taken to a hospital.

Based on Govekar’s complaint, police arrested the four tourists under Sections 324 and 506 IPC at night. PSI Mahesh Kerkar is further investigating the case under the guidance of PI Suraj Gawas.
