A social activist from Sanguem has demanded the demolition of the Sanguem Municipal Council (SMC) administrative complex, after accusing the council of failing to comply with some conditions imposed by the Town and Country Planning (TCP) department.
The SMC administrative building complex was constructed under the Golden Jubilee Liberation Fund and was inaugurated on August 30, 2018.
The building was inaugurated after a prolonged delay, reportedly on account of SMC’s failure to comply with several requisites and issues raised by the TCP, including that of production of Conversion Sanad and demolition of adjoining shops to pave way for parking space.
However in August 2018, the SMC managed to get due clearances from the TCP department but incidentally some of the issues raised by the TCP department allegedly remain unfulfilled as of date, and they include the demolition of shops adjacent to the municipal building and obtaining the conversion sanad.
In a recent reply to the complainant, Francisco X Carvalho, who sought details under RTI, the SMC has cited non-availability of conversion sanad pertaining to the building complex in the office.
The information submitted to Carvalho indicates provision for parking space after the demolition of shops adjacent to the council building but the SMC is yet to demolish the shops, based on which the technical sanction was taken from the TCP department.
In a complaint with the Secretary of Urban Development, and Director of Municipal Administration, Carvalho has now sought action against the SMC and has further demanded demolition of the SMC administrative complex for its failure to comply with the requisites as pointed by the TCP in its technical clearance order.
