IPSCDL, CCP inks deal, Panaji to get Rs 90 crore from German bank for upkeep

In a major boost to Panaji's solid waste management and climate initiatives, a deal inked with German development bank Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) is set to rake in Rs 94-odd crores in addition to technical assistance as well.

The deal is a quadrilateral agreement between the Union Ministry for Housing and Urban Affairs, Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited, the State's Urban Development Department and the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) on one side and the European Union and KfW.

It was signed at the Rajasthan International Centre, Jaipur, where Union Housing Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Secretary (MoHUA) Katikithala Srinivas, Joint Secretary (SBM) Ms Roopa Mishra, IPSCDL managing director and CEO Sanjit Rodrigues, IAS, Urban Development Director, Brijesh Manerkar and CCP Commissioner Clen Madeira were present.

Out of 100 cities, 18 were selected based on their competitive proposals and Panaji was selected under one component dealing with 'Circular Economy', which will get funding of Rs.89.28 crores and a second component dealing with Climate Action with funding of Rs 5 crore, which focuses on sustainable urban development.
