MARGAO
Former deputy Chief Minister and Leader of the Gandhi Market vegetable vendors, Manohar Ajgaonkar has petitioned to the Margao Municipal Council to initiate measures to ensure that the wall of the ill-fated building at the Pimpalkatta does not collapse on the stalls and vendors in the Gandhi market.
Ajgaonkar called on Margao Municipal Chief Officer Madhu Narvekar with a plea to raze down the portion of the building to prevent the structure from crashing on the adjoining stalls and vendors.
The South Goa district Collector, Egna Cleetus, who also heads the South Goa Disaster Management Authority, had directed the PWD to raze down the dangerous portions of the two buildings at Pimpalkatta and near Cine Lata, before the onset of monsoons in the interest of public safety.
Ajgaonkar pointed out that while the PWD has executed and compiled the directions of the Collector, the authorities, including the Margao Municipal Council has ignored and neglected the dangerous portion of the building threatening to come down on the stalls and vendors in the Gandhi market complex.
“We have come today to convey to the Chief Officer to take immediate action against the building. If any untoward incident occurs during the monsoons, we will squarely blame the administration for the serious lapse”, he warned.
The former Dy CM has now decided to call on the newly-appointed Administrator for the Margao Municipal Council, Srinet Kothwale to initiate action in the matter.
