Arpora fire: Inquiry committee summons key GSPCB official

MAPUSA
District Magistrate and Chairperson of the Magisterial Inquiry Committee, Ankit Yadav (IAS), has summoned the Member Secretary of the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) as part of the ongoing investigation into the deadly fire at a nightclub in Arpora that claimed 25 lives.
In the summons issued by Yadav, the officer noted that it is essential to record statements from individuals acquainted with the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident.
The GSPCB Member Secretary has been directed to appear in person at the District Magistrate’s office and produce all relevant documents, records or material connected to the inquiry. The officer has also been asked to make a truthful deposition before the committee.
The State government had on November 8 constituted a magisterial inquiry committee to investigate the circumstances leading to the catastrophic fire at the Arpora nightclub.
Soon after its formation, the three-member committee inspected the Birch by Romeo Lane site in Arpora and interacted with police personnel and other concerned officials.
The inquiry aims to establish the cause of the blaze, identify responsibility, and examine whether there were any lapses in safety compliance, enforcement or oversight. The magisterial probe is part of the government’s broader efforts to ensure accountability and strengthen safety protocols to prevent similar tragedies.
