Even as South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha urged the government to scrap the IRB project on the Curtorim leprosy hospital land and instead set up specialized health institutions, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said though the hospital land is owned by the government, a solution will be found out in view of the public opposition to the IRB project.
“When the government announces any project, opposition starts brewing against the project. As far as the IRB camp at Curtorim is concerned, the land belongs to the government. But, since the local MLA and citizens have made representations to me with the objections, I will try to find a way out and resolve the issue”, the Chief Minister.
Earlier in the day, the South Goa MP said that he is firmly opposed to the government’s plan to set up an IRB Camp at the Leprosy hospital land at Curtorim.
“I was closely associated with the leprosy hospital since my first election in 1977. This land was used for a hospital and should now be used to set up a cancer hospital,” he said, adding that the government should not misuse the land in question.
He said since the land was only associated with health, the leprosy hospital should be only put to use only for a health project.
“A full-fledged cancer hospital should be set up on the land,” he added.
