The Principal Sessions Court on Friday adjourned the hearing in the rape case against Minister Atanasio Monserrate after a summons intended for the Investigation Officer was mistakenly sent to a forensic expert in Hyderabad, who responded that it was too short a notice.
The trial has now been adjourned to October 14 when Deputy Superintendent of Police Vishwesh Karpe - who was one of the IOs in the case - is expected to testify.
Sources informed 'The Goan' that during the previous hearing, the Court had directed summons to the IO but it was erroneously issued to the forensic expert at the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), Hyderabad.
“The forensic expert sought time to testify as it was too short a notice for him to travel to Goa and testify for the trial. The Court has granted time,” the source said.
A fresh summons has now been issued to IO Karpe, who will be examined on October 14 while another summons will be sent to the expert. The trial was recently transferred from South Goa Principal Sessions Judge to North Goa, along with all other case trials against politicians.
