Aam Aadmi Party expressing solidarity with the agitating farmers at Sanguem visited them and extended its support to the just demand of the cultivators. AAP leaders Sandesh Telekar, Surel Tilve and Patricia Fernandes along with other volunteers attended to the farmers.
Sandesh Telekar said BJP is totally against the poor and the downtrodden, and only caters to the whims and fancies of the moneyed sections like the Adanis and Jindals and lamented that while farmers are agitating in the national capital, even in Goa farmers have to take to the streets instead of tending to their crops.
“In Melauli, our Goan farmers are being lathi-charged and tear-gassed just because they are fighting for their land that government wants to steal against their will and in Sanguem our Goan farmers are fighting for their livelihood, but CM Pramod Sawant seems to be interested only in ‘Ganja’ farming,” said Telekar.
Adv Surel Tilve pointed out that CM Sawant has money for all unnecessary things like renovation of the Raj Bhavan but has not even a dime for the poor and struggling farmers who are only demanding for compensation for the sugarcane they have cultivated.
Patricia Fernandes said for the farmers it is a matter of their livelihood and they are not demanding it for their luxury but actually for their very survival, and therefore the insensitive BJP government should hear their grievance and understand their pain and pay the compensation forthwith.
“To fulfil the demands of the farmers all it would take is a sum of Rs 12 crore. The CM is willing to spend Rs 100 crore on Liberation Day extravaganza but does not care about our Goan farmers whose demands can be met in 1/10th of the amount,” said Patricia.
