The mortal remains of 23 victims of the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub fire have been transported to their respective home states.
The massive blaze at the Arpora nightclub on Saturday late night killed 25 people ” including four tourists and 21 staff members while four others are undergoing treatment at the Goa Medical College and Hospital.
Secretary Health Yatindra Maralkar told The Goan that the bodies of 23 victims have been transported and handed over to the families in their home States including Delhi, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Assam, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and even Nepal.
Arrangements for the remaining two victims are being finalized in close coordination with their families and the concerned authorities, Maralkar said.
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had informed that the Government of Goa extended all necessary support to ensure the dignified transportation of the mortal remains along with their next of kin.
The tragic fire left families devastated, many of whom had sent their young sons to Goa seeking stable employment and better opportunities. The State government has announced Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia to the deceased families.
Meanwhile, Maralkar informed that two of the four patients, currently taking treatment at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), underwent Bronchoscopy and sustained respiratory burns.
Two of the six injured in the incident have already been discharged since Sunday.
