St Andre's RGP MLA Viresh Borkar has demanded that Union Home Minister Amit Shah should clarify on the statement made by him at Belgaum wherein he had stated that the diversion of Mhadei waters was agreed in consultation with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.Borkar made the demand as Shah will be addressing a public meeting at Farmagudi on Sunday.
Speaking exclusively to The Goan, Borkar said both Shah and Sawant should clarify publicly to the Goans at the Farmagudi meeting on the Mhadei statement.
"The Mhadei issue is in the Supreme Court and stating that Mhadei water diversion was agreed under PRAWAH goes against the legal spirit," the RGP MLA said and urged for both Shah and Sawant to tell the Goans on what basis the statement was made.
"It appears that the statement was made against the backdrop of the Karnataka elections and the upcoming Lok Sabha polls," Borkar stated.
He further said that since Karnataka has 28 MPs, the BJP wants to appease the voters in that State through such statements.
When questioned on some ministers agreeing for campaigning in Karnataka, Borkar chided such ministers for betraying Goa and Goans on Mhadei.
"On one side they are calling Mhadei as their mother and on the other side they are selling the same mother through dealings," Borkar added.
Meanwhile, activist Xencor Polgi also demanded clarification from the Union Minister on the Mhadei statement and urged those who will attend the Farmagudi public meeting to demand answers from Shah.
"Those Goans who will attend Sunday's public meeting should demand explanation from Shah on Mhadei statement," Polgi opined.
Further, the activist chided the police for trying to intimidate the activists through calls questioning whether there is any plan to show black flags to the Union Minister during the meeting.
"In a democracy, we are entitled to show our resentment and the police does not have any right to intimidate the activists," Polgi further added.
