CANACONA
A large branch of an old tree came crashing down on the NH66 road and damaged a car and a scooter at Chaudi on Tuesday night.
During a short spell of heavy winds and a drizzle, a large branch came crashing down opposite the Canacona Post Office at about 8.30 pm.
A car and a scooter parked on the roadside got damaged in the incident. Fire services personnel cleared the branch later in the night.
It may be recalled that different authorities, including the Taluka Disaster Management, had cleared a number of roadside trees and branches posing safety threats to motorists and pedestrians, particularly along the NH66 highway.
Sources pointed out there are several old and weak trees still dotting the NH66 highway which pose a grave risk to lives.
