Kin of government servants who have died in harness have got a breather as the State cabinet on Wednesday raised the upper income limit from Rs 3 lakh to now Rs 5 lakh, for their appointment to a government job on compassionate grounds.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said this change in the rule is effective retrospectively from April 1, 2017. Therefore, those who were ineligible because of the Rs 3-lakh income limit rule since then, will now be able to join the queue for a government job under the 'compassionate appointment' rule if within the Rs 5-lakh income limit, he added.
Sawant, who was addressing the customary post cabinet briefing, told the media that the queue for a government job on compassionate grounds is around 350 strong at the moment.
Meanwhile, in another decision, the cabinet approved the transfer of 25,000 square meters of land for the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). The land is located in Assonora village of Bardez taluka.
The NDRF is a Central government agency responsible to undertake rescue and relief operations during natural disasters and the State government has struck a deal with NDRF (Pune) to raise a dedicated such force for Goa.
The cabinet also approved post-facto the sponsorship of the World Table Tennis event hosted by the State earlier this year as also the appointment of a boiler operator for the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim on a contract basis for one year.
