The Government High School (GHS) at Sadolxem could well have secured cent per cent results at the SSC exams for the seventh time, had it not been for a “technical issue” which denied the school of this enviable record in Canacona.
The Sadolxem GHS had secured cent per cent results in the SSC exams six times in the past and is only the second government high school after the GHS at Gawal-Khola to compete with government aided high schools for impressive SSC results in Canacona taluka.
When contacted, Sadolxem GHS headmaster Sudhin Naik played down the issue of the school having secured cent per cent results at the SSC exams this year and said there had been “technical issues” with the Goa Board.
Seeking to explain the “technical issue”, a source said one student at Sadolxem GHS had left the school to migrate to another country.
“Shortly after filing the Goa Board examination forms, the student submitted a withdrawal letter, which was forwarded to the board to withdraw the student’s name. The student then left the country.”
“The Sadolxem GHS followed it up to confirm the withdrawal of the student’s name from the list of students answering SSC exams from the school.”
“The Goa Board staff had virtually confirmed the removal of the student’s name from the list but the name remained in the list of results declared by the Goa Board and was marked as failed, which surprised school authorities,” said the source.
As a result, 35 students of Sadolxem GHS who appeared for the SSC exams were declared passed, while one student who submitted his form and withdrew it a short while later was declared failed by the board, leaving the school with 99.22% success.
