Candolim p'yat to collect sewage from shacks

MAPUSA

The Candolim Panchayat has decided to collect sewage from shacks and restaurants along the beaches and a soil tanker has been purchased for this purpose.
Stating this at the Gram Sabha, Candolim Sarpanch Fermino Fernandes said the soil tanker would have a 5,000-litre capacity.
This assurance was given to shack owners who were affected by the high court orders. They had appealed to the Panchayat to give them relief and hence, the Sarpanch assured to extend all support.
The Gram Sabha also discussed a number of issues including illegal constructions, development, garbage, museum at Aguada jail, sewage, ODP, polluted wells, wooden huts etc.
A local, Lawrence Silveira, requested the panchayat not to allow the renovated jail complex to house bars selling alcohol or shops doing any other business.
Locals claimed that the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) and a private company have signed a memorandum, allowing the private company the right for fishing and water cruises.
Locals demanded that the Panchayat should object to this and reject the permission to the private company for fishing and dolphin cruises.
The Sarpanch assured that the Panchayat would firmly support the locals in this issue. Another local suggested that the Panchayat should establish a vigilance committee to monitor illegal activities in the village.
