Claiming that garbage has been accumulating on all roads in the port town, Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida has squarely blamed Urban Development Minister Milind Naik for the ongoing strike among workers at the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC).
"The council was dissolved and the administrator was appointed by the Urban Development Minister, so he has to take the responsibility of clearing the garbage lying by the roadsides.”
“He dissolved the council even though we had demanded an extension. Naik must give the MMC some advance funds for payment of salaries and resolve the issue.”
“Deduction of instalments from salaries which do not reflect in bank accounts amounts to an offence and someone must be held responsible for this," said Almeida.
Stating that garbage on the roadsides could cause inconvenience to people, Almeida has suggested that people should be given the phone number of the Urban Development Minister if there are issues due to garbage.
“We have people calling on Power Minister Nilesh Cabral during electricity failure and he answers their calls as well. Similarly, people can call on the Urban Development Minister when they see garbage not collected because he is responsible," said Almeida.
