MARGAO
Saying that the organisation has been working across the country for the political empowerment of the citizens, the Popular Front of India will extend its support to the clean and good candidates in the ensuing Municipal and Assembly elections.
Addressing the media in connection with the ensuing activities including rallies, corner meeting and public meetings across the State from February 17, PFI Goa unit President, Sheik Abdul Rauf reminded that the PFI is a social organisation, working in the field of uplifting the marginalised sections of all communities across the country.
Saying that the PFI has no political association, Rauf, however, said that the PFI has been working to ensure that a good and people-centric government assumes office anywhere for the benefit of the people.
PFI State General Secretary Imran Mohammed said the organisation has its strongholds in many areas of the State, which would be channelised in support of good and clean candidates. “In the past, our candidates had won the Assembly elections. In the ensuing Municipal and Assembly elections, we will extend support to candidates depending on their character,” he added.
Meanwhile, Abdul Rauf announced the holding of rallies, get-togethers, corner meetings, public meetings, etc all across the country, including Goa, to mark the organisation’s 14 years of dedicated service to the nation. “Our nation is under threat under the fascist forces. As true Indians, we have to stand hand-in-hand to safeguard the constitutional and democratic principles. In Goa, we have planned activities, intellectuals’ get-togethers, corner meeting in different parts of the State,” he said, adding that a public get-together will be held in the State on February 21 as part of the activities.
“We Goans have to wake up and realise that we cannot take things lying down. We have to always be on our guard against the challenges posed by the fascist regime,” he said adding that PFI cadres are on the watch.
