Congress workers took to the streets of Cuncolim on Thursday to protest against the hike in fuel prices effected by the government, with the workers demanding an immediate roll back.
Local Congress leader Yuri Alemao and Youth Congress activists led by President Varad Mardolkar and Archit Naik and others joined the protest from the Congress bus stand to the petrol pump. As a novel protest, the activists pushed a four-wheeler on the road to convey a message loud and clear that the fuel price hike has hit the common man.
In his address, Yuri Alemao said the BJP had gone hammer and thongs against UPA headed by then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh when the price of petrol was hiked to Rs 60 per litre when the international price of crude oil was 140 dollar per barrel. “The BJP government has gone for a massive hike in fuel prices when the price of oil in the international market is around 50-60 dollars,” he said, adding that the price hike has hit the common man in a big way.
Saying that the present BJP Chief Minister has no respect to his mentor and former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who had given relief to the people by regulating the fuel prices, Yuri said the people of Goa will show the BJP a lesson in the 2022 Assembly election.
Goa Pradesh Youth Congress president Varad Mardolkar said the youth Congress activists will hold the protests across the State since the hike in fuel prices has affected the common man.
“The repeated hike in fuel prices has hit the common man as the hike has a cumulative effect on the economy,” he added.
Addressing the Youth Congress activists, Archit Naik said the BJP is no longer concerned about the hardships being faced by the common man due to the hike in fuel prices.
