The Carmona Panchayat has cracked down on the open market where vendors selling plastic, tarpaulin & other plastic wares were ordered to be shut down by the Sarpanch Allwyn Jorge.
These vendors had been repeatedly squatting in the market and selling their wares despite repeated warnings to the contrary.
"We had repeatedly called the police patrol & also the Colva Police asking them to take action to take action. But these vendors were not even listening to the police but carrying on their business clandestinely due to which I had to take firm action to as a Covid prevention measure in the village," the Sarpanch said.
He said crowds used to gather around them in market which used to put villagers at risk. "If they put up shop again we will have to confiscate their goods and impose hefty fine," he added.
He said the village has seen a sharp decline in Covid cases after the Panchayats proactive measures to contain the virus from spreading. "We shall be deciding on whether to extend our lockdown after May 23 at our next body meeting on May 22," he said, adding that Cases have dropped from a peak of 90.
"We will strive to get our village into the Green Zone through our efforts," Allwyn added.
