PERNEM: Cash and goods worth Rs 2 lakh were burgled from a mini-mart along the main road at Dabholkar wada in Morjim in the wee hours of Monday.
The store was shut at 1 am and when the owner returned in the morning, he found that the burglar had broken into the premises and had stolen CCTV equipment, cash of Rs 20,000 and expensive wines.
A restaurant in front of the mini-mart was open till 5 am, but they also did not notice the burglar entering the mini-mart.
The burglar is believed to have climbed up a coconut tree near the mini-mart and entered through the first floor.
The police later conducted the panchanama and pressed a police dog squad into service, while also checking for CCTV footage from other establishments in the area.
Locals have voiced concern over growing thefts and burglaries in the area.
The fund box of the Shree Satpurush temple was stolen a few days ago, and the burglars are yet to be caught.
Residents believe that police patrolling at night, and interception of those roaming suspiciously on the roads at odd hours will help tackle late night burglaries in the area.
