The Cavelossim panchayat has reduced the guesthouse tax by 50 per cent and has also reduced the garbage tax on the households. At the Sunday gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Dionizio Dias, the meeting also gave its stamp of approval for a Rs 1.19 crore surplus budget.
The sarpanch informed that the tax on guest houses has been brought down from Rs 1,000 to Rs 500 as per the decision. Similarly, he said households will have to now pay only Rs 100 as garbage fees instead of Rs 365. The sarpanch also informed the gram sabha that the panchayat had levied a fine of Rs 25,000 on the land owner, who had set on fire mixed waste near the school.
On questions relating to toilets and changing rooms, besides the tourist information centre, the sarpanch informed the members that the work will start soon. Fearing that the Tourist Information Centre will be used for GoaMiles, some members have asked the sarpanch to shut the TIC or use the structure for other purpose or to use the same for disaster management office.
