Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday met Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal in New Delhi to discuss plans for expanding activities at the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA). He said the proposed expansion of import and export activities at the Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) will boost Goa’s business and economic growth.
The discussions also touched upon expediting the transfer of the historic Viceregal Palace to the State Archaeology Department for restoration.
“There are plans to increase the import and export activity at MPA. This is part of the future strategy and if implemented, it will boost business activities in Goa,” Sawant said while adding that the Union Minister is expected to visit Goa soon for further discussions on the matter.
Earlier, Sawant had tweeted about the deliberations, stating that key issues concerning MPT and explored the process of transferring the ruins of the historic Viceregal Palace to the Department of Archaeology, Government of Goa. He said that transfer would facilitate the restoration and preservation of this historically significant site, ensuring its protection for future generations.
