Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant said that the political situation in the State demands that alliance with like-minded parties should happen and hinted of a possibility of BJP tieing-up with MGP, Goa’s oldest regional party.
Sawant also said, on Monday, that the final decision on alliance with any party will be taken by the central leaders.
“The way politics is being played in the State, I feel, like-minded parties should come together. In the past MGP had tied up with us. Our central leaders will take an appropriate decision in that direction,” Sawant said.
The CM’s views on alliance with the MGP has come on a day when senior leader of the MGP, Sudhin Dhavlikar issued a clarification to the media stating that tying up with BJP was like committing suicide and stressed that there was no question of forming an alliance with the saffron party.
Continuing, Sawant said since Union Minister for Road Transport and Highway Nitin Gadkiri was in the State there was every possibility that he could broach the subject of alliance with the MGP.
“Nitin Gadkari is in the State and Goa election in charge Devendra Fadnavis is also arriving in the State on Tuesday. So, there is a possibility that both may hold talks on alliance with the MGP,” he said.
He also said that the final decision on alliance will be taken by Central leaders “ Union Home Minister, Amit Shah and national party President J P Nadda “ after due consultations with concerned parties.
“The nitty-gritties of how many seats have to be allotted to the alliance partner will be decided by them,” he said.
On Dhavlikar’s charge that BJP has ditched the MGP on several occasions, Sawant said: “We have not ditched anyone. From their side they have also created issues,”
The entry of Trinamool Congress in the State along with AAP’s vociferous campaign has given a new dimension to the politics in the State where elections to the State assembly are due in March 2022.
