Ahead of presenting the State Budget for 2026-27 on March 6, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday chaired a pre-budget consultation meeting with Heads of Departments to review priorities and streamline coordination.
During the meeting, Sawant decided to appoint Secretaries to specifically address inter-departmental issues, with the aim of ensuring smoother coordination and more efficient service delivery. “Secretaries will be appointed to deal with inter-departmental issues ” basically to ensure smooth delivery of services and proper coordination,” he said.
In a social media post, Sawant said, “We had detailed deliberations on key priorities to ensure effective implementation, fiscal prudence and accountable governance”.
The 14-day Budget Session of the Goa Legislative Assembly will commence on March 6, with the Chief Minister slated to table the financial statement for the year 2026-27 on the very first day.
This will be Sawant’s seventh consecutive Budget presentation. With the upcoming Budget likely to be the last of the incumbent BJP government before the State heads to Assembly elections early next year, expectations are high that the government may focus on welfare-driven and voter-friendly measures.
Meanwhile, the Opposition has criticised the government over the relatively short duration of the session. Opposition MLAs are expected to write to the Governor and the Speaker, raising objections and seeking their intervention to extend the sittings.
